  1. Do you mean tried to kill “init”? Without the exact error message, it’s going to be very hard to help you.

  2. Never install it without testing it out first with the live cd, when you first get a Linux cd you put it in the drive making sure the computer will boot up from the cd,drive,

you boot it up from the cd, if it is a live cd version, it will boot up into Linux without installing it on your hard drive. The Idea behind this is you make sure it finds all the hardware drivers and everything works as it should,

Then you play with Linux and get to know it first. you can do anything with the live cd, you can use all the programs, play the games and get on the internet just using the cd,

Running from the cd is slow to boot up it can take several minutes but once it is up and running it will speed up, Live cd run from the memory in the computer,

it looks like that disk is off a Linux magazine were they have 2 or 3 different linux systems on it so it should start up with a menu and you pick which one to run first,
MEPIS8 (latest version) is good. Dreamlinux is good, I have never seen Pardus 2008 so I can’t say anything about it.

you should have no problems with the first two
