I want to base my computer on linux – ubuntu 7.10, but i have programs that can only be used by windows, is there a way to install windows on a flash drive, or have a windows live cd? or do i have to just dual OS my computer?

Yes, you can……..there’s WindowsPE which is not really windows, just the pre-installation environment……but gives u a desktop and loadsa stuff, might not be able to put programs on it though…
Or I have an ISO file somewhere that has linux and Windows XP SP2 live CDs in one…either are well handy for when clients mash up their computers and windows won’t boot at all…works slow as geology though, as the CD drive kills the speed of it

You would be better sticking with a dual boot system for now. When you are in Linux you can either try using VirtualBox to run Windows then run your programs on top of it or you can try using WINE to run your Windows programs.
Once you have tested these options you will find one which will work and you are happy with. Then you can delete the Windows partition(s).
