Installing Xubuntu on a laptop with low memory (64mb)?

My computer doesnt have enough memory to run the live CD, is there anyway to just install it to the hard drive without previewing the linux via the live cd… i cannot download the alternate cd, it took way too long just to download the desktop cd…. could i perhaps use a usb pen drive to boost the system’s memory or something?

  1. You would be well advised to install more memory. Barring that, try a different distribution that is less demanding. The following is from the xubuntu website (which I hope you have looked at carefully!). It CAN RUN with 64 mb, but that is not to say it will run well!

To run the Desktop CD (LiveCD + Install CD), you need 128 MB RAM to run or 192 MB RAM to install. The Alternate Install CD only required you to have 64 MB RAM.

To install Xubuntu, you need 1.5 GB of free space on your hard disk.

Once installed, Xubuntu CAN RUN with 64 MB RAM, but it is strongly recommended to use at least 128 MB RAM.
