If winxp crashes or anyhow I am not able to access it can i recover data using ubuntu live cd? If yes how ?

You boot the CD and see if it connects to the Windows partitions. To get data off them either connect to some kind of share on the network or plug in a USB disk if you have one. See the various howtos on mounting Windows drives.
