I love the quick boot of the PUPPY LINUX, are there other quick boot live cd’s?

I would like to use my old copy of windows XP, but it won’t load on my newer laptop nomatter how I tweek my BIOS. I love the quick boot and simplicity of PUPPY LINUX, but it won’t connect wirelessly to my AIRPORT EXTREME. I tried MANDRIVA, it’s nice to look at but it’s too big and it’s too slow to boot and shut down. I’m currently trying KNOPPIX, but it didn’t boot. Besides, it’s a large file like MANDRIVA and I expect it’ll be just as slow, but I’ll try again Does anyone know of any quick boot PUPPY LINUX type of live cd’s?

Most Linux distros have Live CDs, try Ubuntu for example. For a “quick boot”, try Damn Small Linux. Not sure how well it plays with wireless cards though…

  3. Hi There,
I also like Puppy Linux. The reason it boots so fast is because it is only about 100 megs to transfer into your ram. The other live CDs are about 700 megs which takes 7 times as long to transfer to ram.
There is another “small” distro of Linux called DSL (damn small linux) the is as small as Puppy but I have tried it and I doubt it would have the driver for your wireless.
The best version of Linux I have used is Linux Mint 7 (now they have a Linux Mint 8 version for 64 bit systems) that should be able to connect to your wireless.
However it is 700 megs and will take as long to boot as the others.
You may have good luck with the new version of Puppy. It is version 7.30 and may have the drivers.
Another possibility is to go on the Puppy forum and ask about a driver for your particular card. They are very prompt to answer questions and may be able to help.
If you install a Linux distro (one that can connect) on your hard drive it will be much faster than the live CD since it does not have to read and transfer everything from CD.
Hope this gives you some options,
    Al

    have used several LInux distros
