Are you certain they are FAT32 and not NTFS? Even if it’s FAT32, Ubuntu might simply not have the capability to pull it up. I can access my external hard drive that has an NTFS format, but I can’t make any changes to the data on it, but I cannot access my windows partition or even see that it exists…
Not much of an answer but I feel your pain.
