If I understand what you are saying, you want me to tell you why you should get Ubuntu instead of XP? Well, first of all, Ubuntu has very few virus’. Secondly, Ubuntu is very very VERY small, which will free up a lot of hard drive space on your computer. Thirdly, Ubuntu is probably the easiest distro of Linux to run. Once you get “better” persay, you can try out other distros, such as Fedora, Suse, etc.

I am under the impression (from many threads on some forums) that you only need to format the disk if you are installing it on something such as an external hard drive or (maybe) a flash drive. Not ENTIRELY sure on this, but the installation is pretty simple. I’ve got a video on it.
