How do you change your screen size using a linux command?

I just figured out how to put knoppix live linux cd on my computer by booting from the cd, but Im having difficulty changing my screen size and its refreshing rate. I was wondering if anyone knew of any commands that i could type into the root shell that would either add more resolution options or be able to change the screen size.

when I try to configure the display I only have one option for the screen size which is 640 X 480. Is that any other way to get around that and add a screen sice like 1280 X 740 or something so everything isn’t so large on my screen?

  1. Have you tried the boot parameter fb128x1024?
You then have to select frame buffer as your X server.
It works well in my laptop like that.
