How can i pull the my documents folder from a corrupted windows install?

Im working on a computer that was filled with virus/malware/spyware/junk software, just about everything you dont want on a system.

i backed up all the users data. copied it to an external HD. reinstalled windows and moved(i know i should have copied, i wasent thinking) all the data into the my documents folder. installed updates and rebooted windows. windows would not boot. the CD that i have of windows does not have windows recovery console.

I was thinking of two ways to get the data back.
1. pull the drive and use a USB to IDE adapter i have to pull the data onto my laptop.
2. pull the drive and place it in my desktop as a slave.
3. use a live cd of linux to pull the data from the computer and place it on an external hd

any suggestions or directions on how to do this? Or a better way?

  1. no. 2 option is my first pick. but scan it and remove/delete the infected file first before accessing. and it will not cost you anything just a little time of your assuming you already have a desktop with installed OS you just have to install your hdd as a slave. like what i always did on crashed pc’s.

    no. 3 option is second.
