I would like to try out Linux and am looking for a very easy version of Linux that:
1. Can work as a live CD.
2. Has a feel similar to windows, especially a “windows explorer” and the ability to temporarily save files to a “virtual c drive”.
Thank you
ubuntu is one of the best and easiest distribution.

Ubuntu for sure. Its one of the most watered down Linux distro’s there is. One of the best to get started with. Has live CD capabilities, you can access your NTFS formatted drives from it, just a basic all around new user friendly distro.

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 9 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 10.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 9 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD
Linux Mint 9 can be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive
Also it is worth taking a detailed look at DISTROWATCH.COM where the possibilities are endless. Create as many LiveCD’s of different distros. as you want to find one that suits you
