Yes, you can use the wubi installer in XP
I don’t know for sure if it will work on your laptop, but it should. If the live cd works, then installing it will work. A live cd doesn’t actually install unless you tell it to

You don’t need a CD with the wubi installer. After the wubi installer is done, it will ask you to reboot your computer. When you reboot your computer, you will have 2 choices: “Windows Vista” and “Ubuntu”
Choose ubuntu and ubuntu will finish installing. Then you will have a dual boot with Vista and ubuntu

Yes that includes laptops, don’t worry about the driver CD.
Just burn the file you downloaded to a CD with a program called imgburn:

Ubuntu needs a minimum of 4 GB to install
Don’t worry about the driver CD, you won’t need it.
The wubi installer will probably take about an hour. About 30 minutes to download the needed files and 20-30 to install
Yeah, you can use nero.
I just said imgburn because I wasn’t sure if you had nero.
And I don’t mind the questions, ask all you want

Well the easiest and safest way to dual-boot is to use the Wubi installer. It will automatically create a dual-boot with your current OS.
Also, the wubi installer doesn’t actually create a partition, it just uses a virtual hard drive. So you won’t be making any major changes to your system.
Another advantage of using the wubi installer is that if you end up not liking Ubuntu, you can just remove it from the “Add or Remove programs” thing in Vista.
I recommend using the wubi installer, then if you like ubuntu enough you can install it over Vista or do a real dual-boot.

Now to answer your questions:
1. You can make a restore disk with Norton Ghost. Or if you have an HP computer, you may be able to get them from HP.
2. The alternate install CD does nothing but install Ubuntu. The Live CD loads into the RAM and lets you run ubuntu without actually installing it. An ISO is a CD IMAGE. Basically, it needs to be burned to a CD or mounted to work.
3. Not all computers come with driver CDs or restore disks, it depends on the manufacturer
Basically, the wubi installer is everything you need. You won’t need a driver CD, and you won’t have to reset up Vista.
