Complications with Linux install?

Hi,
So originally i planned to install Ubuntu but it kinda didn’t work, probably the image. Anyways I’ve ran out of blank cds and i all i have is an xbuntu live disk. NOW! I went to install Xbuntu, thinking its installation was similar to ubuntu buts its not. The one thing i liked (in ubuntu) , and am greatly concerned about is the whole partitionining. Ubuntu has partitioning built in, which would allow me to dual boot it and XP. Xbuntu doesn’t have this sort of partitioning built in so how do i dual boot XP and Xbuntu?

  1. I REALLLLLY wouldnt bother installing xbuntu , if your new to linux, xbuntu will just make it worse.

I would just suggest either downloading the iso again the maybe look online for something like, install ubuntu from USB disk. maybe you could instal it from usb pen drive.

Either way i would suggest you just try and get ubuntu working first.

    Not much help sorry.
    Maybe try fedora? fedoraproject.org
    Much nicer :)

  2. I find it hard to believe that you have Xubuntu without a partitioning tool. I can’t lay my hands on the CD at the moment, but I’ll bet it will give me the same partitioning options as Ubuntu & Kubuntu.

I found and fired up the Xubuntu liveCD and once I got to the desktop started the installation. Step 4 of 7 is the partitioning routines. While slightly different visually (it is in Xfce and not Gnome so that is no surprise). I suspect had I run it to the end, it would have essentially been the same experience, just different visually. And of course, Xfce rather than Gnome as the desktop environment.
