Can you help with an Ubuntu Live CD monitor resolution problem?

My Windows has failed me for the moment, and so I’m working off of a Ubuntu Linux Live CD. It’s great and all, but for some reason I can’t get the system to run at any resolution higher than 800×600 at 61Hz (mine is a standard monitor designed for 1280×1024). Any ideas why? Better still, any ideas of how I can fix it?

  1. Every Ubuntu LiveCD I’ve ran has allowed my to change the screen resolution. The only possible problem I can think of is if there’s a compatibility issue between Ubuntu and that monitor model. If you have one handy, try a different monitor.
