Booting from External HDD on Mac problem?

I downloaded a ISO of Ubuntu Live, and burned it to a CD. I booted from it, connected my External Drive, and installed Linux to the Drive. I rebooted my computer while holding down the option key, and the boot manager only showed my Mac and Windows partitions.

What am I doing wrong?

  1. Mac does not recognize EXT4 file system, or the Linux bootloader because it is not blessed (meaning its not recognized as a bootable volume). You need to install REFIT http://refit.sourceforge.net/ (free) and restart your Mac 2 times to activate it. Then you will be able to boot Linux.
