What is the best linux Distrobution?

I am a complete Linux Newb, I have little experience with linux, but I’m fed up with microsoft and proprietary software. I have a Sabayon Live CD, but is it worth installing the full 3.9GB version on my laptop? It has all the drivers I need, including the wireless card and touch pad drivers, so I won’t have to install them.

Linux Live distro storage?

Okay, so here’s the details. Read them all before asking a question in your response.

-I’m running Backtrack 2 off of a Live CD
-I have virtually no linux knowledge, so please be clear when talking about linux-specific things.

Now, let’s say I’m running Backtrack off the Live CD. Completely Linux, not inside Windows. I just installed the driver for my Wireless card. Next time I boot up Backtrack, will my driver still be installed?

Also, If I store a file, will it be stored on the CD itself, or somewhere else? Or nowhere at all, and I can’t access it after a reboot?

To help me learn, it would be helpful if you explain your answer =] (Not to sound like a teacher, just to be clear on that. I HATE school just as much as anyone)

Thanks,
Richard

Linux Mint questions?

Hi guys!
Please bear with me if my questions found dumb!
Basically, I need to buy a new pc and been researcing Linux. Sounds absolutely great and did actually download Ubuntu Live CD to check it out – seems to have everything I need: email, browser, office-equivalent, etc.
However, Linux Mint sounds even better, especially because it seems to boot quickly (something that drives me crazy about my current pc!!) and has Beryl, which seems much the same as Vista’s Aero (which I do love the look of).
Anyway, my question is, if I buy a barebone PC, what are the ideal specs if I want fast boot-up times, fast opening/closing of programmes and want to run Beryl?
Does it matter whether I go for Intel or AMD? What size graphics card should I get (and which make. I want one that Linus Mint can instantly recognise and install the necessary drivers for without me having to do anything!).
Finally, I use Skype – is that included in Linux Mint and if not, how easy is it to install?

If my monitor is optimized for 1280 x 1024 resolution @ 60 Hz, what should I choose for V freq and H freq…?

…when I’m configuring custom display settings for a Linux Live CD?
